In part one of our Pool and Spa Trends series, we discussed the virtues of tanning ledges for swimmers who want an ideal space to relax inside their pools. In the second part of our series, we’d like to call your attention to another piece of pool and spa furniture that will be of outmost importance to your future entertaining plans this summer: cocktail tables.

As the name suggests, a cocktail table for your pool can be used to place drinks and other items as you swim. In that sense, it most closely resembles (in terms of intended purpose) a coffee table or a swim-up bar. The primary difference is that while coffee tables tend to be square or rectangular in shape, cocktail tables tend to be round. In addition, most, if not all, cocktail tables include umbrellas that can be used to provide shade from the sun for swimmers. Like tanning ledges, cocktail tables can usually be found in the shallow area of the pool and allows people inside the pool to enjoy the water without actually swimming in it.

Of course, if you’re going to swim we must warn you against doing so while drinking alcohol. As we’ve noted in the past, excessive alcoholic consumption has been linked to many drowning accidents due to the inability of swimmers to control their motor functions. Therefore, exercise extreme caution when it comes to swimming while drinking—in particular, stay close to shallower waters and be sure that other people are around in the unfortunate event that you begin to drown.

While the practical uses for cocktail tables are fairly limited, the opportunities to add a bit of flair to your swimming pool area are various. You can purchase cocktail tables of different shapes, sizes and colors that best match your particular tastes and the particular décor of your back yard (or wherever your pool may reside). As far as the material from which the cocktail table is made, you’ll want to stick to water-resistant plastics like acrylic—naturally, tables made of wood would inevitably decay if left in water for an extended period.

Rodney did an awesome job helping me reset the remote on my pool. He did this after hours over FaceTime to make it convenient for me. Top shelf service!

“Buying a pool these days is like a vacation. It’s a book & plan-ahead process. But unlike a vacation…this investment doesn’t end!”
