But there’s one resolution you can make: to keep up on the latest pool and spa trends. With that in mind, we will keep you abreast of pool and spa trends, starting with this blog post on tanning ledges.

In short, a tanning ledge is an area built into a spa or pool that enables swimmers to sunbathe while staying cool. As such, tanning ledges are typically shallower in depth—approximately 12 inches or less of water—than the floor of the spa or pool itself. In addition to catching some rays, tanning ledges also allow people to sit and enjoy the sensation of the water lazily lapping around them. This also eliminates the need to get in and out of the pool continuously so that swimmers can stay acclimated to the temperature of the water and resume swimming once they’re ready to do so.

Granted, sunbathing and swimming aren’t the types of activities that one would engage in this time of year, particularly in an above ground pool. For committed year-round swimmers, however, tanning ledges provide them with a resting area before, during and after aquatic exercise. As tanning ledges are areas that keep people cool during the summer, they can also keep people warm in winter if they are in a heated spa.
